UIC Special Collections Hosts Manuscript Society in May
Eighty-three attendees of the Manuscript Society's annual meeting visited the Richard J. Daley Library Special Collections Department on May 28. The Manuscript Society is an international organization of 1,800 dealers, private collectors, authors, and caretakers of public collections. Its institutional membership includes historical societies, museums, and academic libraries.
The Library exhibit included letters and documents from the Richard J. Daley
Special Collections Department. These included manuscripts from the Jane
Addams Memorial Collection, the Midwest
Women's Historical Collection, and documents written by prominent Chicago
figures Nelson Algren, Eugene Field, and John McGovern. The department displayed
inscribed books, antique maps, and prints from the Richard
F. Casper Military Research Collection. The materials from Hull-House included
an invitation to a Mardi Gras party held in the Hull-House dining room.
In addition to its visit to UIC, the Society's members also visited the Adler Planetarium, the Oriental Institute, the Joseph Regenstein Library at the University of Chicago, and the Newberry Library.
