qUICsearch™ is a web-based search engine that allows you to select from over 100 databases to which the UIC Library subscribes and execute a single search across all the files you choose. Many of the databases offer access to fulltext articles so that qUICsearch provides a one-stop approach to writing a research paper.
Using qUICsearch™, select from all the available databases, one of the broad categories such as "Arts & Humanities" or "Medical Sciences," or single discipline groupings, such as English, nursing
or physics. Search by authors, subjects, keywords or by words in titles or abstracts. Limit by publication date. Search a single term
or phrase and combine terms.
Now, qUICsearch has a new look and these new functions:
- Sort results by number of hits or by database name.
- Merge all the results from all the databases searched into one result set.
- Sort all the results by title, in alphabetical order.
- Sort all the results by author, in alphabetical order.
- Sort all the results by date, from newest to oldest.
- "De-Dup" results, sort all the results by normalized title. Duplicate titles are not displayed
- Display only the records you have selected
- Sort the results according to relevancy (the number of occurrences of search term(s) in title).
- Use the MeSH (Medical Subject Headings) thesaurus to search other terms associated with your original search term.
Use qUICsearch™:
-
when you want to search more than one database with a single query
-
when you are uncertain where to begin your research
Reviewing results from a simple search will help you select the best databases for your topic. qUICsearch™ is also valuable for interdisciplinary topics because you can simultaneously search the literature in more than one discipline.
