Caribbean Stories: The Art of Life Series Begins March 7
The UIC Library's first public program in its series Caribbean Stories: The Art of Life takes place on Tuesday, March 7, at 4:30 pm, in room L285 of the EPASW building at 1044 W. Harrison.
Nancy Cirillo, Professor Emeritus, UIC, provides historical and social context to the book jacket art from the Library's H.D. Carberry Collection of Caribbean Studies, and illustrates how these works are graphic representations of the contents of the book made marketable through aesthetic appeals to taste and convention and prevailing political and social mores.
A reception follows the presentation.
This series is funded by a grant from the Illinois Humanities Council.
Attendees can park in the UIC lot on Morgan and Harrison or the UIC Pavilion lot. CTA buses #7 Harrison and #60 Blue Island and the Blue Line (UIC-Halsted) stop nearby. To request disability accommodations or for more information, please contact Linda Naru, lnaru@uic.edu, 312.413.0394.
