Journal Impact Factors and Rankings Database Updated
The ISI Journal Citation Reports published by Thomson Scientific and used by librarians and information scientists to evaluate journals, recently incorporated the 2005 citation measurements, including new rankings based on impact factors.
The ISI JCR is an online quantitative database for comparing and evaluating the influence of journals in the areas of science, technology, and social sciences. The impact factor measures the frequency with which the "average article" in a journal has been cited in a particular year or period. To obtain a ratio between citations and recent citable items published, the impact factor of a journal is calculated by dividing the number of current year citations to the source items published in that journal over the previous two years. See "The Impact Factor" essay on the Thomson Scientific website for a description of the calculations and applications of the data.
