Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
The UIC Library is pleased to announce that electronic access to Avery
Index to Architectural Periodicals is now available at
http://autoweb.rlg.org/cgi-bin/webscr/ilix/ewebyea87.scr
The Avery
Index to Architectural Periodicals offers a comprehensive listing of
journal articles published worldwide on architecture and design,
archaeology, city planning, interior design, and historic preservation.
Avery indexes not only the international scholarly and popular periodical
literature, but also the publications of professional associations, US
state and regional periodicals, and the major serial publications on
architecture and design of Europe, Asia, Latin America, and Australia.
Expanded coverage includes obituary citations providing an excellent
source of biographical data-often the only information available for
less-published architects. Coverage is from the 1930s (with selective
coverage dating back to the 1860s) to the present. It is updated weekly.
This database costs $2,590 per year.
History E-Book Project
The UIC Library is pleased to present the History E-Book Project, which is
an electronic resource from the American Council of Learned Societies and
can be seen at http://www.historyebook.org/ . It began in September,
2002, with a website of over 500 books of high quality in the field of
history. These are works of major importance to historical studies-books
that remain vital to both scholars and advanced students, and are
frequently cited in the literature. Approximately 250 books will be added
each year, as well as publishing 85 completely new electronic titles that
have the potential to use new technologies to communicate the results of
scholarship in new ways. This electronic resources costs $1,425 per year.
Note: In the previous issue of Library-News we reported that we now have
access to the Business Collection of JSTOR. That collection costs $2,400
per year with a one time charge for archiving of $6,000.
Library-News is an electronic newsletter reporting on major acquisitions
in the UIC Library, news of changes in the library that may impact on
