Newspapers
The UIC Library is extremely pleased to announce that we now have a
comprehensive, full-text newspaper database at
http://infoweb.newsbank.com/
called America's Full text and International
Full text Newspapers. This database presently covers 533 English language
newspapers worldwide with 362 from North America, 39 from Europe, 19 from
Asia, and 113 from Australia. The database is being expanded so that by
the end of the year there will be 44 more local Illinois titles, 21 from
Africa, and 18 from the Arabian Gulf area. Most of the major newspapers
are covered back to 1985 or 1986 including Chicago Sun Times, Chicago
Tribune and Red Eye, Christian Science Monitor, USA Today, Los Angeles
Times, and San Francisco Chronicle. You can tailor your searches to the
entire world or to a country or a state or a single newspaper. As with
all databases of this type, there will be some newspapers that are not
available to NewsBank. We will be supplementing the NewsBank database
with another database from LexisNexis, which should be available within a
month.
This year is the first time the Library has been able to offer a newspaper
database for our researchers. The cost is $29,089.00 per year.
Times Literary Supplement
A reminder to everyone that the Library offers the Times Literary
Supplement Archive at http://www.tls.psmedia.com/ where you can view all
full text reviews as they appeared in the original print newspaper. Also
included in this database are the biographies of each of the reviewers.
This database costs $782.00 per year.
Library-News is an electronic newsletter reporting on major acquisitions
in the UIC Library, news of changes in the library that may impact on
service, news of newly acquired electronic resources, and news from
Chicago area libraries.
