Inspec
The Library is pleased to announce that the comprehensive index, Inspec, can now be accessed through Engineering Village. You will find Inspec by going to the Library's homepage of "Alphabetical List of Electronic Resources" at http://www.uic.edu/depts/lib/reference/resources/electronicresources.shtml and clicking on Engineering Village.
Inspec is a database created by IEE (Institution of Electrical Engineers) and covers physics, electronics, computing, control engineering, and information technology as well as related areas of materials science, oceanography, nuclear engineering, geophysics, and biomedical engineering. It contain more than 7 million records from 3,400 journals, 2,000 conference proceedings and selected books, dissertations, and reports.
Engineering Village is the database that provides access to Compendex the comprehensive database covering engineering. One can search either Inspec or Compendex separately or together as one database. In addition to providing Compendex and Inspec, you may also search through Engineering Village selected handbooks and standards, including those of ACI, API, ASME, ASTM, IEC, IEEE, and TAPPI. Full text of standards from ASME and ASTM are available at another UIC database found in the "Alphabetical List of electronic Resources" under Standards. Finally, Engineering Village permits you to search full text U. S. Patents from 1976 to the present.
Inspec is provided at a cost $32,250 and Engineering Village at a cost of $32,000.
Of related interest to Engineers is IEEE/IEE Electronic Library Online at http://ieeexplore.ieee.org/Xplore/DynWel.jsp which provides the full text of all journals and proceedings published by IEEE and IEE as well as searching across all publications of IEEE and IEE.
