The Library is pleased to announce subscriptions to the following two
health science-related databases.
InfoPOEMS
InfoPOEMS is a clinical awareness system designed to support
evidence-based medicine (EBM). POEM stands for Patient Oriented Evidence
that Matters. POEMs are issued daily and can be accessed in a variety of
ways, including search the Daily POEMs database; browse the POEMs released
by month and year, such as all the POEMs from February 2004; and get the
daily POEM sent to you via e-mail.
The POEMs are also integrated into a much larger database of clinical
tools called InfoRetriever. This database has 13 segments, which can be
searched simultaneously or browsed separately. InfoRetriever includes the
following:
- InfoPOEMS database.
- Over 180 clinical decision rules, decision support tools, and
calculators.
- Over 700 evidence-based practice guidelines from the National
Guidelines Clearinghouse and other sources.
- Griffith's 5-Minute Clinical Consult.
- An atlas of 550 medical photographs to aid in diagnosis.
- All of the abstracts (over 1,700) from the Cochrane Database of
Systematic Reviews.
- A database of detailed information on over 2,000 diagnostic tests
and Physical examination maneuvers.
- Links to over 500 patient education handouts.
InfoRetriever is available in several formats: web-based and downloadable
desktop, PocketPC, and PALM OS versions. For more information about this

The cost of InfoPOEMS and InfoRetriever is $8,700.
AccessMedicine
AccessMedicine is a suite of 26 titles packaged in 5 modules. Harrison's
Online, Hurst's The Heart, and The Metabolic and Molecular Bases of
Inherited Disease each have their own module. The AccessLange module
offers access to 20 titles from Lange publishers, including Harper's
Biochemistry; Jawetz, Melnick, and Adelberg's Medical Microbiology;
Current Obstetric and Gynecologic Diagnosis and Treatment; and Basic and
Clinical Pharmacology. The CMDT Online module offers 3 titles: Current
Medical Diagnosis and Treatment; Pocket Guide to Diagnostic Tests; and
Practice Guidelines in Primary Care.
AccessMedicine is available at http://www.accessmedicine.com . The cost of
this database is $22,600. The Library subscription does not include
access to Harrison's On Hand.
Library-News is an electronic newsletter reporting on major acquisitions
