Any exemption from this policy must be requested from the Circulation Supervisor in the Library of the Health Sciences-Chicago and will be granted only in exceptional circumstances. Should there be a period when the library is unable to provide photocopy services, this policy would be temporarily suspended until photocopy services have been restored.
Of particular note, if you are directed to ECO in OCLC FirstSearch, be aware that there are two ways into this database. On the first screen of OCLC FirstSearch you will see two hotlinked lines. The first says Connect to OCLC FirstSearch and the second says Preview the New Version of FirstSearch. The New Version is available for everyone to use and for accessing all of the electronic journals that UIC receives through ECO, and should be the way to link into the database. Just click on the line that says "Preview the New Version of FirstSearch" and then locate the ECO database. Clicking on "Browse Journals" will bring you a list of all the electronic journals offered by ECO with those available to UIC highlighted. The list that you find when you click on "Connect to OCLC FirstSearch" is no longer kept up to date with new titles to which UIC has access.
The UIC Library has a goal to exceed 2,000 electronic journals in this year, 2000. We will soon meet that goal when we will have access to all of the Elsevier journals in a database called ScienceDirect. Watch for an announcement of the availability of this new database.
Library-News is an electronic newsletter reporting on major acquisitions in the UIC Library, news of changes in the library that may impact on service, and news of newly acquired electronic resources.
