EBSCOhost

EBSCOhost is a suite of electronic resources that includes fully searchable full-text journal and newspaper articles, abstracts and full-text pamphlets and books, all available 24-hours a day. Indexing and abstracting varies with each title, some going back to 1984; full-text articles, also, vary with some going back to 1990.

The 7 major subfiles that we can access from this database, each with a special emphasis, each searchable as a separate component, or all searchable as one database are described below. There is overlap of journal and newspaper coverage among the 7 subfiles. Each subfile has its own list of full-text journals; however, a title in one subfile may be full-text but not full-text in another file. Check the list of journals and newspapers covered in each subfile to determine whether or not you have access to the full-text of the article or just an abstract of the article.

• MasterFile
  a database that provides indexing and abstracting of over 2,760 periodicals with 760 providing full-text articles. The periodicals cover general reference, business, consumer health, general science, humanities, and multi-cultural disciplines.

  Health Source Plus

  a database that provides indexing, abstracting, and full-text articles from 255 periodicals plus full-text of 1,065 pamphlets and 23 books, some back to 1990. It covers nutrition, exercise, medical self-care, drugs and alcohol, and related topics.

  Business Source File

  a database that provides indexing and abstracting of over 1,570 periodicals with 930 providing full-text articles. The periodicals cover business, management, economics, banking, finance, accounting, and related topics.

  U.S. Pharmacopoeia, v. 2 :Advice for the Patient

  a database that provides drug information for the layperson.

  Academic Search Elite

  a database that provides indexing and abstracting of over 3,000 scholarly periodicals with 1,200 providing full-text articles. Over 1,700 of the periodicals are peer-reviewed. The periodicals cover business, social science, humanities, general academic, general science, and multi-cultural disciplines.

  Newspaper Source

  a database that provides indexing, abstracting, and selected full-text articles from 143 U.S. national and regional newspapers and foreign newspapers.

  Clinical Reference Systems

  a database of medical information on clinical and consumer health topics.

  Ebsco Online Citations

  this is an eighth database that is not functional at this time for UIC.

EBSCOhost can be accessed directly at http://search.epnet.com or through the UIC Library homepage in the alphabetical list of databases. This is a very sizeable database that provides a wealth of information. Some of the information is available through some of the other electronic resources that the Library currently maintains. Any input on the usefulness of EBSCOhost from faculty, students, and staff will be greatly appreciated.
