National Criminal Justice Reference Service (NCJRS)
The University Library now has available the National Criminal Justice
Reference Service (NCJRS) database. This is one of the most extensive
sources of information on criminal and juvenile justice in the world,
providing services to an international community of policymakers and
professionals. NCJRS is a collection of clearinghouses supporting all
bureaus of the U. S. Department of Justice, Office of Justice Programs:
the National Institute of Justice, the Office of Juvenile Justice and
Delinquency Prevention, the Bureau of Justice Statistics, the Bureau of
Justice Assistance, the Office for Victims of Crime, and the OJP Program
Offices. It also supports the Office of National Drug Control Policy.
To access this database, go the Library's homepage at
http://www.uic.edu/depts/lib and click on the alphabetical list of
databases, or go directly to the database at
http://www.ncjrs.org/database.htm .
Cancellation and Change Alert
The following database will no longer be available: Research Centers and
Services Directory. Our provider, Gale Research, will not be offering
this database as a separate title. It will be included in a larger and
more expensive database. The Library is investigating the cost of the
new
database.
Peterson's Guides
The following two databases will no longer be available: Peterson's
Undergrad Search and Peterson's GradSearch. Our provider, Gale
Research, has not renewed its contract with Peterson to offer these two databases.
The Library is investigating the cost of accessing the databases through
another provider.
MathSci Changes
The Library has subscribed to MathSci for several years through the
University of Michigan. As of July 1, 2000, we will no longer be using
the University of Michigan as a provider. We will be going direct to
the
American Mathematical Society for MathSciNet.
