JSTOR

It is with great enthusiasm that the UIC Library announces the availability of JSTOR (Journal Storage), an electronic resource. JSTOR's mission is to help the scholarly community take advantage of advances in information technologies. To this end, a database comprised of fully searchable back issues of scholarly journals is being developed. There are two components to JSTOR's efforts: "creation and maintenance of a trusted archival repository; and enhanced and more convenient access to older journal materials." To access JSTOR, go to the URL http://www.jstor.org/and enjoy reading articles from as early as 1876. Beginning next week, JSTOR will appear in the alphabetical list of electronic resources on the Library's homepage at http://www.uic.edu/depts/lib . There are 117 journals in phase I covering African American Studies, Anthropology, Asian Studies, Ecology, Economics, Education, Finance, General Science, History, Literature, Mathematics, Philosophy, Political Science, Population Studies, Sociology, and Statistics. Full text of all journals is from volume 1 of each journal through 1994 for those journals still being published. Each year, another year is added, creating a "Moving Wall." A full list of all 117 journals can be found by clicking on "Browse the Journals" on JSTOR's homepage, http://www.jstor.org/ .

Journals in African Studies, Archaeology, Classics, Geology, History of Science, International Relations, Latin American Studies, Middle East Studies, Psychology, Slavic Studies, Art History, Business, Botany, and Medicine will be added in the coming years.

Within the next few months the following journals in Ecology and Botany will be added to the six titles that are already included under Ecology:

American Journal of Botany, 1914-1994
American Midland Naturalist, 1909-1996
American Naturalist, 1867-1994
