Issue no. 90, July 23, 2001
Library-News is alive and well. Since March the Library has been busy reviewing electronic resource renewals and considering new electronic resources for 2001/2002. Although our budget for the next fiscal year will be constrained, we will continue to evaluate new resources and consider the addition of new electronic journals. License agreements between publisher/provider and UIC still create a great deal of work, waiting, negotiating, and explaining. Nevertheless, we continue to proceed forward. We currently have over 3,000 individual titles on the alphabetical list of electronic journals on the Library's homepage.Electronic Journal Update
ScienceDirect (Elsevier Journals Online). It is now official. We have a joint subscription to ScienceDirect with the Urbana campus. As a result we will be adding a considerable number of new titles to our list of electronic journals. These titles will be those for which Urbana has a paper subscription but UIC does not. As soon as that list is verified, the individual titles will be added to the alphabetical list of electronic journals on the Library's homepage. Also, watch for the following collections that will be available through ScienceDirect:
Cell Online Molecular Cell Online Immunity Online Neuron OnlineWe, also, have purchased the backfiles of the following organic chemistry titles which will soon be available through ScienceDirect:

Acta Crystallographica Sections A, B, C. D, E Journal of Applied CrystallographyEnvironment and Planning A, B, C, D is now available.
JSTOR: We now have access to the next large collection of JSTOR titles covering ecology and botany from the first issue of each title through 1994 or 1996. You can access these titles through the JSTOR URL http://www.jstor.org/ . All new titles will be added to the alphabetical list of electronic journals. We are in the process of adding a third collection of JSTOR titles that will cover Asian studies, economics, history, Latin American studies, population studies, political science, Slavic studies, and statistics. This new collection should be available this fall. Watch for an announcement.
The Library is in negotiation through CIC to acquire consortial access (depending on license acceptability and cost) to all of the electronic journals published by Kluwer and Blackwell. If terms and cost are acceptable, these should be available early next year. We are, also, in the negotiating stage for electronic access to the Nature weekly. Until now, there were numerous problems with the license agreement in order to have access to the Nature weekly, but those are being resolved through intensive negotiation by CIC.
Highwire Press: We continue to negotiate with Highwire Press to gain electronic access to many high impact biology journals.
BioOne: This is a collection of society publications in the sciences published by Allen Press. We are in the process of adding this collection. Once all the paper work is done and license is approved the individual titles will be added to the list of electronic journals on the Library's homepage.
ECO (Electronic Collection Online): Several new titles are being added to this collection for UIC.
We hope that our electronic journal collection has been useful in your research. Most of the publishers/providers have been reliable in providing access but if you have difficulty in accessing a title, contact H. Robert Malinowsky at hrm@uic.edu .
