Who Was Smedley Butler? 1985

This 1985 poster compares official descriptions of the famous Marine Corps General Smedley Butler published in Smithsonian magazine in June 1984 with his own critical appraisal of his career. The rhetorical device of the question invites the viewer to interrogate the formal balance or symmetry of text on either side of the central image.
