This is to inform you that the Indiana Local of the CALA Midwest Chapter has held two meetings in 2001/2002. The spring meeting of the Indiana Local was held on Saturday, March 23 from 12 noon to 3:30 p.m. at Mark Pi's China Gate in Bloomington, Indiana. Six people attended the meeting and had an enjoyable time together, exchanging information about our profession. The meeting featured the following reports:
- Database Management of the Government Publications -- Xiao Yu
- Empower and Change: career development in the field of Library Sciences -- Pei-ling Han
- Introduction about CALA as an organization for the Chinese-American Librarians -- Liana Zhou
We also elected Xiao Yu as the new Chair of the Indiana Local for 2002/2003.
Xiao Yu is the Data and Electronic Services Librarian, Dept. of the Government Publications, Indiana University Libraries, Bllomington. As the Local Chair, Xiao Yu will become the State Contact of the Indiana Local.
Organized by Pei-ling Han, a farewell party for Marian Chou was held on May 25 at Yummy Restaurant, Indianapolis, Indiana. Marian Chou, a former Indiana Local Chair (1986-1987), served as the President of the Midwest Chapter, 1998-1999. She also organized and cooridnated the first Asian-Pacific American Literary Award for the 2001 Conference on Asian Pacific American Librarians held in June, 2001, San Francisco. She was retiring from the position of the Reference Librarian, Marion County Public Library, Indianpolis, Indiana, this summer and is going to move to San Francisco afterward. Five people attended the party and shared fond memories of working together with CALA colleagues.
