ICLC is quite a new initiative for the Iasi area. When we started promoting it, we considered the experience of the West and of our colleagues from Cluj. The structure of the Center consists of three services:The first service above is expected to have major impact on library users due to Iasi's current socio-economic context where information is essential to offer opportunities and chances for advancement. This services offer information concerning: public administration, social work, medical work, companies, culture, mass-media, education, and leisure. These topics were selected after extensive study of users' needs. Furthermore, it was realized that the Gh. Asachi Public Library's new center would be able to offer access to information that would be otherwise inaccessible to the citizens of Iasi and beyond. To fulfill this goal, the library is selecting only that information of the highest quality and greatest utility based upon an established set of criteria.
- Local Information Service
- International Information Service
- Local Bibliographic Service
A brief description of the services follows:
Local Information Service offers information that exists in the center's database and its reference collections. The database is organized by institution or organization (governmental and non-governmental) whose social activities are useful for the people of the local community.
International Information Service offers information concerning European laws and support of Romania's integration into the European structures. It also informs library users about international programs such as PHARE, TEMPUS and others, about laws in other countries (e.g. human rights, constitutions), other information from embassies and cultural centers in Romania. The Center also offers information available via Internet.
Local Bibliographic Service offers information about library cultural activities and their corresponding bibliographic lists; local administrative activities including cultural programs of specialized institutions (articles from newspapers); Romanian laws (available via LEX EXPERT).
NOTE: All information is free.
