Chicago's Water
- The Lab Schools' contribution to Globalearn's Internation Expedition
While Globalearn's expedition went to Turkey to learn how water is used
there, the students in Mrs. Dorman's 5th grade class in University of
Chicago Lab Schools investigated the use of water in Chicago.
Communicating Through the Internet
- Created by Marilyn Healy at Bardwell Elementary School , Aurora,
Illinois, through participation in the Fermilab LINC class. This is an
online project that introduces primary students to the concept of the
internet, telecommunications, and e-mail.
For teachers the project has the purpose of integrating telecommunication
into their existing curriculum and class instruction. It provides a link
between the real world and what students learn in the classroom.
ExTerminator Mystery Project
- This project was developed in the spring of 1995 by Mr. Ramme and his
5th grade students at Broadmeadow Elementary School, Illinois. The
project had its origin from the students extensive studies in entomology
and their fun times in playing "Where in the USA is Carmen SanDiego?" The
project was released onto the Internet in the spring of 1995 and met with
great success.
The Iditarod Dog Sled Race
- Developed by Judy Bernard, Edgewood School, Woodridge, IL for grades
4-5, who used Bloom's Taxonomy of educational objectives to plan the unit.
The Island Project
- This web site was developed by the students in Ms. Kathy Dorman's
1995-96 5th Grade Class at University of Chicago Lab Schools. The
stories and maps are entirely student work. Maps were drawn by hand then
scanned; map titles were added by the students using Adobe Photoshop.
Students wrote and edited their stories, by hand and on computer. Then
they made final corrections suggested by a teacher.

- The problems are created by the fifth grade harristown math group.
Plants And
Animals
- Rupley students are examining plants and animals at Busse Woods Forest
Preserve and comparing them with Academy
collections.

Prairie
- The unit, "A Celebration of Prairie Life," is an eight-week
multidisciplinary study for fourth grade in Oak
Park district 97, Illinois that integrates several subjects, including
the fine arts: social studies, language arts,
science, mathematics, music, visual arts, dance, and drama. The choice
of the prairie as a topic for integrated
study provided for natural connections between the subject areas.
The Trial of the Century
- Project by 4th graders at Carroll-Rosenwald School, Chicago, IL. On
Friday May 3, 1996, the 3rd grade students in Room 104 at Rosenwald held a
civil trial. On trial was Goldilocks, the famous
golden-haired beauty of Goldilocks and the Three Bears fame, who had been
charged with trespassing, stealing and property damage.
