Sciences
* Chickscope Project
University Primary School in Champaign, Illinois children in the Col. Wolfe classroom are able to control an MRI scanner twice a week to study live chicken embryos as they develop. The project, run by a collaboration which includes the National Center for Supercomputing Applications, Project SEARCH (a U. Ill. science outreach program), the College of Veterinary medicine, and the University's Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Larboratory, allows students to control an MRI scanner and study the developing chicken embryos without causing them harm.

*COMPUTER PHYSICS LESSON PLANS, Morgan Park High School, Chicago, Illinois
Lesson plans for 39 weeks, each of which include objectives, strategies/activities, evaluations and references.

* CoVis: Learning through Collaborative Visualization.
Students, teachers, and researchers working together to practice science in the classroom.

*Cyber Mummy Project
One of the most spectacular artifacts housed at the World Heritage Museum at the University of Illinois in Urbana is this mummy acquired in 1989 from a Chicago antiquities dealer. Unlock its secrets with the help of modern medical imagery, a supercomputer, and an archeologist.

* Endangered Lake County Animals
Students at Gavin are researching an endangered Lake County animal and its habitat. They use the data to identify, graph, and explain the changes that have occurred over time.

* Endangered Plants and Animals in Illinois.

* Endangered Species
Students at Millstadt Consilidated School are researching endabgered species of St. Clair County.

* EnergyNet Community Web
An innovative network science project, in which students evaluate their school's heating and lighting systems, and then share their data over theInternet. Students thus form scientific research communities in which they learn about the production, cost, and management of the energy upon which both theirschool and their society depend.

* Environethical Issues
An environmental issue/problem or a bioethical issue from Latin School of Chicago.

* Environmental Data
Students at Milford High School are collecting environmental data on the Sugar Creek watershed and comparing it with land use practices over time.

* Forces and Winds (Department of Atmospheric Sciences, University of Illinois)
Because of the uneven heating of the earth by the sun, differences in pressure are established. These differences cause air parcels to move from areas of relatively higher pressure to areas of lower pressure. This is the birth of wind. Additional forces then interact with the moving air parcel and influence its direction and velocity.

*Holy Cow
The object of this project is to integrate linear functions, quadratic functions, parametric equations, and concepts in physics in a problem solving situation using the Geometer's SketchPad. Physics Project by Evan Glazer at Glenbrook South High School, Glenview, IL.

* 1996 Illinois Bluebird Project
In an effort to create an awareness about the bluebirds throughout the state, the Chicago Academy of Sciences, in cooperation with the Natural Heritage division of the Illinois Department of Natural Resources, The Illinois Natural History Survey and the Illinois Audubon Society, began the Illinois Bluebird Project.This project will bring together bluebird enthusiasts statewide. Project personnel will coordinate observations from volunteers to assess population numbers and nesting habitat. Date received will be computerized at the Academy and analyzed for the annual summary report by the Natural History Survey.

*Lesson Plans of ADVANCED PLACEMENT PHYSICS, Morgan Park High School, Chicago, Illinois
Lesson plans for 39 weeks, each of which include objectives, strategies/activities, evaluations and references. Other materials available are the Advanced Placement course outline and the Advanced Placement Physics Lab Manual

*Lesson Plans for INTRODUCTORY PHYSICS, Morgan Park High School, Chicago, Illinois
Lesson plans for 39 weeks, each of which include objectives, strategies/activities, evaluations and references.

* Modeling Projects in the Secondary Science Curriculum
What follows are some high school modeling lessons and projects spanning a broad range of sophistication. For the most part, they deal with population dynamics and they are biologically oriented, although there are some chemistry and physics models as well. An attempt has been made to rank the various projects by how "advanced" they are, with the first ones being the most rudimentary.

*The Physics Classroom
An online tutorial covering motion concepts such as kinematics, Newton's laws, vectors, projectiles, work and energy, and momentum. The Physics Classroom offers instruction, questions to check understanding, and a wealth of informative graphics. The material is suitable for a first-year high school physics student. (Tom Henderson, Glenbrook South High School).

* The Physics Web Page by Stevenson High School, District 125, Illinois
The majority of the resources on this page deal with Physics C (calculus based physics). Other physics students will also find this useful.

* Plants And Animals
Rupley students are examining plants and animals at Busse Woods Forest Preserve and comparing them with Academy collections.

* Plant And Animal Populations
Simmon Middle School students are studying plant and animal populations and wetland conditions at the Wolfe Wildlife Refuge Restoration Project in Oak Lawn.

* Prairie Plants
Students at Chatsworth are conducting a study of prairie plants in their area.

* Solar System
Created by Diane Horvath, Donna Kutrubis, Jo Olenec, Sue Ponzio, and Nancy Serpico of Elmwood Park Community Unit School District #401.

* Two Science Sites Index by students
Students in the science classes at Latin School of Chicago have constructed the sites about flies and fast plants.

* Understanding Mind-Altering Drugs
Introductory module on the biochemistry of drugs in a first-year general chemistry high school course.

* Winter Prairie Project
Harristown students are photographing natural prairie grasses, wildflowers, and animals at a prairie located near Decatur.
