Reference Services The Reference Department offers instruction in library research and resources
related to the subject areas of the humanities, social sciences, business, and
engineering. Course-related
sessions are customized to meet the needs of UIC classes.
General
orientation sessions for groups outside the UIC community can also be requested.
Individual
research appointments allow for specialized, one-on-one assistance and are available to the UIC community. The
Reference department also offers a series of technology
workshops for UIC faculty and staff.
The Reference department prepares approximately 60 guides and handouts intended to help patrons begin their research, and access Library resources and services; these materials are available online and in print, across from the Reference Desk on the 2nd floor of the Daley Library. These guides range from campus and building maps to help sheets on using UICCAT and other databases, as well as numerous subject-oriented bibliographies. In addition to traditional reference service, the Daley Library Reference Department provides services via email and online "chat" technology. The Ask A Librarian service allows you to submit a question from your home or office and get help when and where you need it. Email questions will usually be answered within 24 hours; live online chat is currently available from 11:00am-4:00pm Monday-Friday. For more information about Ask A Librarian, click here. Reference librarians provide various services for library users with disabilities, including research assistance and coordinating retrieval, printing, and photocopying of research materials.
