The AMICA Library image database contains more than 114,000 digitized images of works of art from around the world. Broad coverage of media (paintings, textiles, decorative art, etc.), time periods (6000 B.C.E. to the present), and cultures (Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas).

Finding Books

Use UICCAT, the online catalog, to locate books in the UIC Libraries on a particular art topic. Search by the following methods:

    Any Word Anywhere
    Do NOT use and, or, not between search terms. To search phrases, use quotes. Results are ranked by relevancy. For example:
    history sculpture italy
    "baroque painting"

    Boolean Search
    Use and, or, not between your terms to combine. To search phrases, use quotes. For example:
    collage or "found objects"
    "Renaissance art" and sculpture

    Browse Subject
    Use Library of Congress Subject Headings. *You must know the subject headings in order to search by them.* For example:
    Art, American 20th century
    Outsider art
    Da Vinci, Leonardo, 1452-1519

Books and Periodicals on Art and Architecture are shelved under "N" in the Library of Congress Classification System.

Art Abstracts
This database provides comprehensive abstracting and indexing of more than 370 international art publications. It is also available in print as Art Index. New York: H.W. Wilson Co.

This database provides abstracts of articles and other materials on modern and contemporary art.

Humanities Abstracts
This database indexes more than 500 periodicals covering art and the performing arts, as well as other humanities.
