Instruction Sessions
Course-Related Instruction
Course-related instruction in research
methods and library resources accounts for a large portion of the sessions that
the department teaches. The content of the instruction is customized to meet
specific course needs by working directly with UIC faculty and instructors.
Faculty and Instructors: Request
a library research session for your class or group.
Help by Appointment
If you require assistance with your research, need an orientation to a database,
or want to become familiar with sources in a specific subject area, the Reference
Department offers in-depth one-on-one research consultations with a reference
librarian. These are available to members of the UIC community. To schedule an appointment,
please complete a "help by
appointment"form.
General Orientation Sessions and
Outreach
The Reference Department offers more general orientation sessions to groups
within the UIC community (e.g. Tutorium in Intensive English, Honors College
101), and provides outreach to groups outside the UIC community (eg. local high-schools,
Spertus Institute).
Instructors: To request an
orientation session for your class or group, please send an email to lib-class@uic.edu
Technology Workshops (for Faculty
and Staff)
A series of resource-specific workshops is offered each semester to UIC
faculty and staff. These workshops cover such resources/topics
as Web of Science (Citation Indexes), Current Contents, and RefWorks. Upcoming workshop dates and times are announced on the academic listserv.
Research guides and instructional
handouts that will help patrons access and use the resources of the Daley Library
are available in print across from the Reference Desk (2nd floor). A variety
of these research guides and tutorials are also available online.
