The Science Library houses books and journals in chemistry, physics, and the
biological and geological sciences, as well as indexing and abstracting journals, and
reference works. Special collections include the Sadtler
Research Laboratories Standard Spectra Collections (IR, NMR, UV, C-13) and The U.S. Geological Survey
reports for the U.S., midwestern states, and Canada. Materials may be found by using UICCAT
(the University Library's on-line catalog) on workstations in the library or
through remote access over the campus computer network. UICCAT also permits
searching of UIC's government documents collection and I-Share,
a consortium of over sixty Illinois libraries.
The Library's web pages also provide a gateway to numerous other research library catalogs including those of
the Big Ten and the University of Chicago. Chemical information may be located using SciFinder
Scholar (Chemical Abstracts) and the Beilstein
(organic chemistry) and
Gmelin (inorganic chemistry) databases. Both these chemical databases are searching using client software that is installed on Science Library public workstations (look for shortcuts on the desktops of each Science Library public workstation). For help using the Science Library or it's resources please contact Tim Klassen at klassen@uic.edu or 312-413-3060. You can also arrange research consultations with him in the following disciplines: Math, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Earth and Environmental Sciences, Biology, and Computer Sciences. Faculty may arrange inclass orientations to library resources.
