Instructions for installing SciFinder Scholar
(UIC Users only)

SciFinder Scholar 2007a for Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) - also backward compatible with Mac OS X 10.3 and 10.4

The SciFinder Scholar 2007a for Mac OS X Leopard (10.5) software (sfs2007a.dmg), released in May 2008 is a re-coded version that will run on Leopard (Mac OS 10.5) without using Rosetta. For help from CAS, see: SciFinder Scholar 2007 for Mac OS X (10.5)

Upgrading to SciFinder Scholar 2007a

1. Go to the UIC Library download site, enter your netid and password if challenged, and download sfs2007a.dmg (~7MB Macintosh Disk Image File)
2. Run sfs2007a.dmg. (On some systems, it will autorun on download. If not, double-click sfs2007a.dmg.)
3. Drag SciFinder Scholar 2007a (the application package on the white "button" in the installer window) into your Applications folder.
4. Drag SciFinder Scholar 2007 (the original release application package) into the Trash.
5. Close the installer window and drag the desktop icon to the Trash. sfs2007a.dmg may also be dragged into the Trash.
6. (Optional) Create a Dock or Desktop alias.

New Installation of SciFinder Scholar 2007a

1. Go to the UIC Library download site, enter your netid and password if challenged, and download sfs2007a.dmg (~7MB Macintosh Disk Image File)
2. Go to ftp://ftp.uic.edu/pub/library/uic/scifinder/mac/ and download the site.prf file; save it into a temporary folder.
3. Run sfs2007a.dmg. (On some systems, it will autorun on download. If not, double-click sfs2007a.dmg.)
4. Drag SciFinder Scholar 2007a (the application package on the white "button" in the installer window) into your Applications folder.
5. Close the installer window and drag the desktop icon to the Trash. sfs2007a.dmg may also be dragged into the Trash.
6. Copy the site.prf file into the "SciFinder Scholar>Contents>MacOS" folder when installation is complete. To do that, follow these steps:
   • open the "Applications" folder on your hard drive
   • hold down the "Control" key and click on the "SciFinder Scholar" application icon
   • from the pop-up menu that appears, select the "Show package contents" option
   • open the "Contents" folder
   • open the "MacOS" folder
   • drag the site.prf file into the "MacOS" folder
7. (Optional) Create a Dock or Desktop alias.

Mac (OS X 10.10.2)

1. Go to ftp://ftp.uic.edu/pub/library/uic/scifinder/mac/ and download sfs2006-osx.dmg (~7MB Macintosh Disk Image File), and the site.prf files; save them into a temporary folder.
2. Double-click on sfs2006-osx.dmg to mount the software. This is a Desktop Volume containing the SciFinder Scholar 2006 Application Package.
3. Open the SciFinder Scholar 2006 Desktop Volume, if it does not auto-open, and choose "as Icons" for the View.
4. Drag and drop the SciFinder Scholar 2006 Application Package (~21.9 MB) to your Applications folder. (The Application Package will be the SciFinder Scholar 2006 "icon" on the white button-like background in Icons view).
5. Eject (Unmount) the desktop SciFinder Scholar 2006 Volume.
6. Copy the site.prf file into the "SciFinder Scholar>Contents>MacOS" folder when installation is complete. To do that, follow these steps:
   • open the "Applications" folder on your hard drive
   • hold down the "Control" key and click on the "SciFinder Scholar" application icon
   • from the pop-up menu that appears, select the "Show package contents" option
   • open the "Contents" folder
   • open the "MacOS" folder
   • drag the site.prf into the "MacOS" folder
7. (Optional) Create a "SciFinder Scholar 2006" alias (shortcut) to the SciFinder Scholar 2007 Application Package for your dock or desktop.
