Windows (2000, NT4, XP, Vista)

1. Go to ftp://ftp.uic.edu/pub/library/uic/scifinder/win/. Download sfs2007.exe (~13 MB self extracting executable) and the file site.prf to a temporary directory on your hard drive.

2. Execute "sfs2007.exe" to install the SciFinder Scholar 2007 software. You can do this by:

• A) Double-clicking it in Windows Explorer (or My Computer), or
• B) Choosing Run from your Start menu,typing in the full path to the file, and clicking OK.

3. Follow the prompts to complete the installation.

4. Copy the site.prf file into the SFSCHLR directory when installation is complete.

Installation Tips:

• Be sure that the site.prf file retains the type ".prf" .
• Do NOT move or copy the preferences file into the "SciFinder Scholar 2007" directory which you may see as an open window when installation finishes. That is the shortcuts file in the "Start" menu.
• If you experience difficulties upgrading an earlier version of SciFinder Scholar, run the "Uninstall" program to remove the older version; then follow the instructions above to install the latest version.

Optional Add-on Software:

• To download the SciFinder Scholar Toolbar for use with Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE v5.01 or later), go to ftp://ftp.uic.edu/pub/library/uic/scifinder/win/ and download sfstoolbar.exe (~24.3 MB). The toolbar can be installed via the full installer or as add-on software.
