Adaptive Technology
PC workstation with the following software and devices:
- Table with adjustable height
- JAWS (version 6.00.410): Reads electronic text from web pages aloud.
- Kurzweil 3000 and scanner: Scan and read program for scanning print docments and listening to content through headphones, or for reading web page text.
- Zoomtext (version 8.1): Screen magnification software
- Headphones: Headphones are available at the Reference Desk. However,
users are encouraged to bring their own for hygienic purposes.
Location: Second floor, north of reference desk on west side of building
Training: Reference Desk staff can assist patrons
in using the workstation. Students who need assistive technology software
training should contact the UIC Disability Resource Center at 312-413-2183 (Voice) or 312-413-0123
(TTY). Patrons with visual impairments in need of further training who
are not UIC students should contact the Chicago
Lighthouse at 1850 W. Roosevelt by calling 312-666-1331.
Closed-circuit television (CCTV): Text enlarger for books and journals.
