The College of Physicians and Surgeons
1897 Football Team

It is unclear if there was an official team name. The Plexus,
which was the official publication of the college, referred to the team
by a number of names. These names included "The Iodoform and Blood" (an
apparent reference to the color of their uniform), "The Doctors", "The Medics", but usually The Plexus just called their team "The P&S".
The P&S's first game appears to have been against the West Division High School, which The Plexus claims taught the new team "that it is a hard thing to play a good, gentlemanly game with over-ambitious school boys." The first season went on to include games against the Chicago Dental
College, Hahnemann Medical School, and Notre Dame. The team's only victories
in its first season were against Hahnemann and possibly the West Division
High School.
