Reproductions, Fees, Rights, and Permissions
The
Special Collections Department and the University Archives provide
photocopy and photographic reproduction services for their
collections. The Special Collections Department and the University
Archives reserve the right to refuse reproduction and/or limit the
number of copies due to copyright laws and regulations, physical
condition of material, confidentiality or other factors.
Photocopy Reproductions
- Photocopy requests may be submitted between 10:00 a.m. -
4:15 p.m., Monday – Friday or through Ask A
Librarian.
- Same-day photocopy service is not available.
- All photocopies are made by the Special Collections
staff and marked with an UIC collection identifier.
- Completed photocopies are held for patron pick-up
or mailed for a fee.
Photographic Reproductions and Digital Imaging Services
- Photograph
reproduction orders can be submitted in person, by telephone, email,
and mail.
- Images need to
be identified by the collection name, folder number, and negative
number if known. Limited photo research can be done by Library staff, but researchers are encouraged to select photos in person.
- If the image was
seen in a publication or a web site, provide a print copy of the
image, the citation or URL and the complete photograph credit.

To order photographic prints, please specify size, number of copies,
and the type of finish: glossy or matte.
- To order scans,
please specify resolution, image size, and file format.

Photograph reproduction requests can be sent through Ask
a Librarian or mailed to the address given in Permissions section. Reproductions are provided for research and study purposes only. If images are to be used for any other purpose, permission to publish or display must be requested by submitting the Permission to Publish form.
- Photograph processing takes two weeks from the receipt of the order.
Fees
Photocopy fee is $.15 per page. For
off-site requests (mail, telephone, email, and fax), there is a
minimum $5.00 billing charge.

Payment
TO
PRE-PAY: Please make check or money order payable to: UNIVERSITY OF
ILLINOIS AT CHICAGO. Credit card payment is not yet available except for scans downloaded per UIC Photo Services instructions.
TO BE BILLED: Orders can be billed if a U.S. street address and
telephone number for that address (no cell phone numbers) is
provided.
Orders
over $200.00 must be paid in advance. Business and organization
orders must include a federal tax identifier number. For orders from
outside the U.S., please call or email for payment procedures.
Copyright Notice
The individual requesting
reproductions expressly assumes the responsibility for compliance
with all pertinent provisions of the Copyright Act, 17 USC Sections 101
et seq. The patron further agrees to indemnify and hold harmless
University of Illinois at Chicago, Special Collections Department and
University Archives and its staff in connection with any disputes
arising from the copyright and invasion of privacy, over the
reproduction of materials at the request of the patron.
Special Collections does not hold the reproduction
rights to all the materials in its collection. The researcher is
responsible for determining the copyright holder and obtaining
copyright permission. Special Collections and University Archives
will reproduce for publication only items for which they hold the
rights of reproduction or receive written permission from the
copyright holder.
Permission
for Publication or Public Display
After receipt of reproductions or scans, please submit the Permission to Publish form, or send a written
request or email to lib-permissions(at)uic.edu seeking permission to publish, edit or publicly display
images and include project details including image file names or pertinent identifying information, publication title, publisher, date and circulation to:
