Biographical Sketch

In 1971 along with friends from Carleton College, Bob McCamant founded the Chicago Reader, an alternative free weekly newspaper focused on cultural and political issues in Chicago. McCamant served for more than two decades as the Reader's art designer, and distinguished the publication from other free weekly papers through its clean and professional design, During this era, McCamant played a role in professionalizing art design through his work as editor for the journal of the Society for Typographic Arts (STA), as well as organizing conferences and giving speeches. McCamant also founded the Sherwin Beach Press, for which he serves as designer and editor.
