Administrative History

In 1993 the Annenberg Foundation announced a "Challenge to the Nation" -- a grant of $500 million to support school reform in public schools across the nation. In Chicago, a $49.2 million grant supported a project whereby networks of public schools worked with external partners such as universities, nonprofit organizations, and the Chicago Teacher's Union Quest Center to improve the quality of teaching and the quality of students' work and achievement. Upon completing of the grant project, the Chicago Annenberg Challenge helped to build a successor organization, the Chicago Public Education Fund, which focuses on principal and teacher leadership.
