This collection contains correspondence, reports, notes, memoranda, and printed material documenting Elizabeth Breckinridge's career as a social worker and advocate for the aged. Much of the material was gathered in preparation for the White House Conference on Aging of 1961.

Biographical Sketch

Elizabeth Harris Llewellyn Breckinridge (1914-1976) was a Chicago social worker and expert in the field of aging and senior citizens. She was the author of Community Services for Older People: The Chicago Plan, published in 1952, and Effective Use of Older Workers. She worked as a practicing social worker, developing programs for the Illinois Department on Aging and served as a policy advisor on issues pertaining to older people at the city, state, and national levels.
