Elsie P. Wolcott was a social worker in Chicago and part of the larger circle of social reformers and activists surrounding Jane Addams. Wolcott studied under Edith Abbott at the Chicago School of Civics and Philanthropy. She researched practical problems faced by poor families such as food preservation and hygiene. The Elsie P. Wolcott Papers include academic course materials, reports, clippings, pamphlets, brochures, notes, correspondence, immigration case files, and government documents. Most materials relate to the work of social service agencies, especially in regards to child welfare, immigrants, and women.

The Elsie P. Wolcott Papers include academic course materials, reports, clippings, pamphlets, brochures, notes, correspondence, immigration case files, and government documents. Most materials relate to the work of social service agencies, especially in regards to child welfare, immigrants, and women. Several publications of the Children's Bureau, a part of the U.S. Dept. of Labor, are included in these papers. Edith Abbott, an associate of Jane Addams, produced some of the following academic course materials and government publications.
