Biography of Frank Ryan

Frank Ryan was born on 22 February 1886. He was a member of the Chicago Board of Trade and worked as a Grain Commission merchant. Elected as a Democrat to his first term in the Illinois House of Representatives in 1914, Ryan went on to serve thirteen terms as a State Representative, making him the longest tenured member of the Illinois House. In 1940, Ryan sought a seat in the Illinois senate and won it. He remained in the Senate until 1956. In both instances he stood for election in the 2nd district, which included parts of Chicago's 20th, 25th, and 27th wards. In addition to his political activity, Ryan was also involved in charitable and fraternal societies such as the American Legion and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
