Administrative History

The Hyde Park Travel Club was organized in the latter part of the 19th Century with Prof. Charles S. Farrar, 1888-1898, as its first leader, and Mrs. M.H. Davidison as its first president. Affiliated with the General Federation of Women's Clubs, the Hyde Park Travel Club organized a series of annual lectures about travel, social issues, history, culture, and the arts. The Hyde Park Travel Club included several long-term standing committees such as the Army and Navy Service committee and the Public Welfare Department that provided aid to disabled veterans and the Park Ridge School for Girls among other causes. The organization hosted social events such as annual and group teas and fund-raising efforts for charities such as the American Red Cross, Goodwill Industries, and the Salvation Army.
