Administrative History

The International Design Conference in Aspen began in 1951. Founded by many of America's rising stars on the graphic design scene, the IDCA sought to provide a forum for discussion on design. Aspen, Colorado had been the site of every convention since its inception. During the early years, the discussion was relatively introspective but as the conference grew, the dialogue became structured around specific topics, including speakers on other cultures (Japan, Italy, the business world). Herbert Pinkze was involved in the early years of the IDCA and his collection contains many slide photographs of the early conventions. The IDCA has since joined with the AIGA and is now called the Aspen Design Conference.
