The McDonough County Women's Political Caucus or MCWPC is a local branch in Illinois of the National Women's Political Caucus, a nonpartisan group formed in 1971 to promote and support women candidates for political office in the United States. The McDonough County Women's Political Caucus Records include bylaws, correspondence, memoranda, minutes, membership lists, documents, certifications, newsletters, clippings, brochures, pamphlets, flyers, photographs, negatives, election materials, student essays, a civil rights education poster, and map.

Administrative History

The McDonough County Women's Political Caucus or MCWPC is a local branch in Illinois of the National Women's Political Caucus, a nonpartisan group formed in 1971 to promote and support women candidates for political office in the United States. The MCWPC promotes the goals of the National Women's Political Caucus at the local level through fund raising activities, endorsing candidates for local and state offices, sponsoring student essay contests, helping to provide general education about women's rights and promoting greater political participation by women in all levels of government.

Scope and Contents

The McDonough County Women's Political Caucus Records include bylaws, correspondence, memoranda, minutes, membership lists, documents, certifications, newsletters, clippings, brochures, pamphlets, flyers, photographs, negatives, and election materials. Student essays regarding women's history and political participation for contests sponsored by the caucus form a significant part of these records. Materials from affiliated organizations such as the national, state, and other local women's political caucuses, the Western Organization for Women, and the Illinois State Board of Elections are also included. Oversize material consists of a map of Macomb, Illinois and a civil rights education poster.
