She was editor and principal writer for the Lincoln Park Zoo Societies member publication, ARK magazine from 1973 to 1980. During her years as a volunteer, McCann photographed the activities, people and animals of the zoo, creating a pictorial chronicle of Lincoln Park Zoo during its years of growth during the 1960s and 1970s.
