Abstract: The National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy began in 1957 as an ad hoc effort designed to stimulate debate on the pros and cons of the nuclear age, especially the perils of nuclear testing. Administrative History

The National Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy began in 1957 as an ad hoc effort designed to stimulate debate on the pros and cons of the nuclear age, especially the perils of nuclear testing. Local groups, such as the Chicago chapter also founded in 1957, were organized to implement the national program, hold rallies, engage in workshops and peace marches, and establish communication with political and civic leaders, as well as with local residents.

The collection consists of correspondence, reports, published material, programs, minutes, press releases, speeches, bibliographies, and photographs. The materials pertain to the purpose, program, and activities of the Chicago Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy, arms control, and nuclear testing.
