Stanley R. Linn (1883-1945) was a nephew of Jane Addams who spent part of his childhood at Hull-House. Jane Addams assumed guardianship of Stanley and two of his older siblings upon the death of her sister, Mary Catherine Addams Linn (1845-1894). Stanley's sister, Esther Linn Hulbert (1880-1955), and his brother, James Weber Linn (1876-1939), did not spend as much time at Hull-House, but James Weber went on to write a biography of Jane Addams after he became a professor of English at the University of Chicago. Rev. John Addams Linn (1872-1918), the oldest sibling, perished during World War I while providing relief to Allied soldiers as a member of the YMCA.
The majority of this collection consists of correspondence between various family members and friends of Stanley R. Linn, Esther Linn Hulbert, and James Weber Linn. Newspaper clippings regarding the death of Rev. John Addams Linn, calling cards with notes, and other published material about members of the family are also included. Some material concerns Jane Addams. These items were taken from Accession 71-21 by staff at the University of Illinois at Chicago.
