"Suppress from UC" Function allows the local library to suppress their records from the Universal Catalog (UC) while still remaining visible in the library's local OPAC Suppressing Bibliographic Records from the Universal Catalog
If you need to overlay a record in Voyager with a record from OCLC with a different OCLC number, or add an OCLC number to a brief record in Voyager originaly does not have an OCLC number, then you need to use this "Suppress from UC" function by adding 049 |u nouc instead of using "Suppress" function in the bibliographic record in Voyager.
- If the existing record in Voyager does not have an OCLC number:
- Check UC to see if there is another record for the same item in UC
- If YES: Add 049 |u nouc to the record. Wait to the next day. Check the UC to see if our record has dispeared from the UC.
- If YES: then add the 035 with the correct OCLC number to the record and catalog it as usual.
- If NO: then wait for another day until it disappears
- If NO: then add the 035 with the correct OCLC number to the record and catalog it as usual. No need to add 049 |u nouc.
- If you need change the OCLC number in the existing record in Voyager:
- Check UC to see if there is another holding under the same record
- If YES, then add add 049 |u nouc to the record. Wait to the next day. Check the UC to see if our holding under the record has dispeared.
- If YES: then change the OCLC number in 035 field and catalog it as usual;
- If NO: then wait for another day until it disappears
- If NO: then change the OCLC number in 035 field and catalog it as usual. No need to add 049 |u nouc.
For more complete information about this new option, including specific 049 |u coding examples, a brief discussion of workflow implications, and technical details on the "Suppress from UC" option, see the document posted at "Suppressing Bibliographic Records from the I-Share UC using the "Suppress from UC" Function.
