Shelf Preparation/Special Handling

Special handling slips will be used every time there is a non-routine handling of a book. This slip will be used by the cataloging department, internal departments and by the Regional Sites.

Information on Special Handling slip is as follows:

  1. Correct spine label as shown on t. p.
  2. Photocopy missing page(s)
  3. Tip in erratum slip, loose pages, etc
    1. Between pages
    2. Page following t.p.
  4. Prepare half pocket.
  5. Collate for pocket insert(s)
  6. Bind
  7. Rebind or mend
    1. Spine/Case
    2. End sheets
    3. Pages:
  8. Thesis: print call number and attach piggyback barcode.
  9. Transfer to: Transfer from: (Circle one)
    1. (mark location and sub location)
      location    sub location
  10. Withdraw from collection.
  11. Duplicate disk and file orginal. Return book/disk to:_________
  12. Special Collection (rare): give to the LCIII. DO NOT tattle tape, stamp, or attach date due slip. Type call number on acid free paper strip.
  13. Glue gift plate on verso of cover:
  14. Physical processing of CD ROM:
    1. Attach call number and all necessary labels.
    2. Affix barcodes to book.
    3. Affix barcodes to CD ROM
  15. Book corrections needed:
    1. Ownership stamp
    2. Date due slip
    3. Barcode
    4. Create item record
    5. Book/record call number problem
  16. Gift - use piggy back barcode
