Mission

Mission Of the UIC Catalog Department

The mission of the Catalog Department is to make UIC Libraries collections available to users by creating and maintaining timely, accurate, and complete bibliographic records for our holdings. In support of teaching, research, outreach, and clinical service at UIC, we provide intellectual access to knowledge collected by the Libraries, regardless of its location or form. We strive to create records that will serve our own users, but which also will serve our consortial partners, the citizens of Illinois, and the national and international bibliographic community. We do this by following all current standards, including those for cataloging health sciences materials. We contribute our new or enhanced bibliographic records and our name authority records to OCLC to serve the users and staff of thousands of libraries around the world. We define local policies and procedures as necessary to serve our mission. (will be updated soon)
