February 5, 2003
Present: Annie Armstrong, David Austin (Recorder), Julie Hurd, Victoria Pifalo (Chair), Carol Scherrer, Anne Weller (Champion)
Minutes of January 23, 2003, were read and approved as corrected.
Review of staff comments and questions about the new web page was tabled. Not enough have been offered to consider
Annie will fashion appropriate wording to make a distinction between Electronic and Online resources to ease patrons' confusion.
Carol observed that nowhere on the Library's pages does a link to Tigger appear. Anne and Carol will look through the University's pages to see if it appears elsewhere. If not ERQ will consider if a link to Tigger should appear on the Library's page.
All personnel in charge of departmental web pages should look through their web pages to make sure that "The Richard J. Daley Library" has replaced the old "Main Library" terminology.
The question about Features versus New needs to be address. Victoria will contact Linda Naru for her input on the matter. For next meeting members of ERQ should look at Library News, More News, etc. and be prepared to comment.
Planning Day discussion related to the new web page was tabled until John was in attendance.
Staff Web site:
The simple solution is that each committee is listed with its charge, members
and their term of office. Links will be provided to committee minutes. Victoria will work with Wendall on
establishing the directory structure and index.
Other business included Carol's questions on Copyright. In the future the Electronic Collections committee will develop an FAQ, but for now LHS will develop an instruction page on linking to the Library's web databases and full text resources to avoid copyright problems for instructors who need the information for their class web pages and blackboard courses.
In the future Serials Solution records will be added UICCAT, which will enable users to link directly to a citation from the catalog.
Annie will submit a feature story about the Electronic Journals list to Linda Naru for the News and Features pages to remind users that this exists.
