Charge

The charge of the Task Force is to develop a plan to establish an institutional repository at UIC, implement a pilot project, evaluate and modify the project, and then recommend a process for large-scale implementation.

Objectives

Guidelines for establishing an institutional repository at UIC
A list of issues that need resolution before a plan can be implemented, including legal, copyright, financial, and technological concerns
Guidelines for the types of intellectual output that the repository should and should not contain
Guidelines for who can deposit material and who can access it
A strategy to obtain support from the UIC community and to promote the repository within the UIC community

The libraries at Cornell and Pennsylvania State are now enhancing and extending DPubS to create an open source, general purpose platform that will aid institutions of higher education and research in managing and disseminating the intellectual efforts of scholars and researchers. Several partner institutions will begin testing an alpha version of DPubS in fall 2005, with beta testing scheduled for early 2006 and final release in mid-2006.
