Guidelines for Peer Review ReportBackground: Brief description of course, the topic or content of the class, the objectives and overall plan for the class, and materials supplied by the librarian candidate. This background draws on the pre-class information and/or discussion with the librarian. Note anything significant about the class and the preparations for it. Observation: Succinctly describe what occurred during the class, especially activities and behaviors on the part of students and the librarian that indicate the quality or effectiveness of the teaching. Draw from the descriptions you recorded on the Classroom Observation Form. Describe whether the librarian seemed to meet the goals he/she set out and the effectiveness of the instructional materials (handouts, web pages, etc.) Try to give a sense of the class to those who were not there. Evaluation: Synthesize and assess the background materials, the class observation, the student evaluations, and insights from the meeting with the librarian after the class. Draw on your reflections recorded on the Classroom Observation Form. Evaluative comments should be made here with specific examples that relate to the activities in the Guidelines for Reviewers. Note things that stand out as significantly high quality and suggest areas for further development. The report should contain no recommendation regarding retention. Distribution: The written report should be shown to the librarian candidate, who may add comments or explanations for the reviewer's items, if she or he wishes. The report, including the librarian candidate's comments, will be given to the 3Y/5Y committee for review. The committee will also examine the librarian candidate's teaching portfolio and summary of student evaluations, as well as other relevant documentation in order to write its evaluation of the candidate's librarianship and to make its recommendation regarding retention.
