Ling,
I discussed this with Public Services Council. It was their recommendation
that this free copy of Camtasia be given to the Daley Reference Department.
The Info Arcade, LHS-Chicago, and LHS-Peoria already have the software.
It's our further recommendation that copies of the software be obtained for
the library sites that do not have access: LHS-Rockford and LHS-Urbana.
Please let me know when the tutorials become available because likely we
will want to customize them somewhat. Daley Reference has already produced
a UICCAT tutorial, so will want to compare the two products.
I copied Bob Daugherty so that he and the Access Council are also aware.
thanks
Jo

Great, Jo! For this, we may not have to bother Jay, if I can sign them.
Thanks again!

Ling,
I will be happy to promote this with Public Services and will also pass it
along to Access Services. We have a copy of Camtasia in Peoria, that we purchased
with grant funds and it is very nice.
However, I'm not the one to sign off on the license and copyright -- that
would be Jay.

Jo,
Hope you are the right person to handle this, if not please direct it to
whoever should be. We need to get back to ILCSO by June 1.
Please let me know if you have any question.
Many thanks!

Posting on behalf of Susan Augustine and the IUAG End User Instruction Committee:
----------------------------------------
To: ILCSO Member Library Liaisons
From: Susan Augustine, Chair, IUAG End User Instruction Committee
Date: April 6, 2005
RE: Offer of instructional software from EUIC
A few weeks ago, Liaisons were sent an email letting you know that the IUAG
End User Instruction Committee (EUIC) is currently working on developing a
series of online end-user tutorials for ILLINET Online.
The finished tutorial - comprised of four modules covering the Universal
Catalog - will be available to ILCSO member libraries at no charge in Fall
2005, both as a finished product and as a script to allow flexibility in individual
libraries' implementation.
EUIC is using Camtasia Studio/SnagIt, a bundled software package for creating
and editing multimedia tutorials by the TechSmith Corporation, to develop the
modules.
As part of the project, EUIC is offering every ILCSO library one free copy
of Camtasia Studio/SnagIt so that member libraries can customize the Universal
Catalog tutorial created by EUIC or create other tutorials for their individual
catalogs. (Note: You do not need to have the Camtasia software in order to
be able to use the finished tutorial created by EUIC, but the software is necessary
if you wish to modify the tutorial.) Libraries will also be free to use Camtasia
for other instructional or training projects.
Training sessions will be offered in late Fall 2005 at locations across the
state to instruct ILCSO member libraries' staff in the deployment of the finished
tutorials and the use of Camtasia software; however, libraries are free to
use the software before that time.
The University of Illinois, ILCSO's fiscal and contractual agent, has purchased
one copy of the software for each ILCSO library.
The software is provided to ILCSO member libraries at no charge.
In return, libraries accepting the software agree to abide by the terms of
the Camtasia Studio and SnagIt software licenses and the University of Illinois'
policy on Software Copyright Compliance.
Attached to this email are a copy of the University of Illinois' policy on
Software Copyright Compliance, a copy of the Camtasia Studio License Agreement,
and a copy of the SnagIt License Agreement. Please review these documents and
keep them for your reference.
ILCSO Library Liaisons must sign and return the attached consent form indicating
your library's choice to accept or decline the Camtasia Studio/SnagIt software
by June 1, 2005.
Sign the attached consent form as appropriate to indicate one of the two
options:
* Your library accepts the software and agrees to abide by the terms of the
Camtasia Studio/SnagIt software licenses and the University of Illinois' policy
on Software Copyright Compliance.
* Your library wishes to opt out of receiving a copy of the Camtasia Studio/SnagIt
software.
Return the signed form by June 1, 2005 to the ILCSO Office either by U.S.
Mail or fax:
Illinois Library Computer Systems Office
228 Library and Information Science Bldg, MC-496
501 E. Daniel St.
Champaign, IL 61822-6211
ILCSO Fax: (217)244-7596
Upon receipt of the signed consent form indicating that a library accepts
the software, the ILCSO Office will mail the library's Liaison the electronic
software key (through U.S. Mail) along with instructions for downloading the
software directly from the TechSmith website.
The Committee encourages each Liaison to share this information with appropriate
staff in his/her library responsible for end user instruction and to consult
with appropriate staff before deciding whether to accept or decline the Camtasia
Studio/SnagIt.
More information about the tutorial itself and the upcoming training sessions
is forthcoming. Watch for emails from EUIC this Summer.
If you have questions about the project or the software, please contact the
ILCSO Office at oncall@listserv.ilcso.uiuc.edu. Questions specific to the content
or format of the EUIC ILLINET Online tutorial project will be forwarded on
to the Committee.

Hello Ling,
Thank you for this. Please don't feel you need to wait for ILCSO's tutorials.
We would like the software as soon as they make it available because we are
working on our own tutorials. Thanks, FL
