Employee of the Month
The Employee of the Month Committee is pleased to announce its choice of Jill Evans, Secretary III, as the April 2005 Employee of the Month. Jill is always helpful, friendly, and pleasant. She is willing to take on new challenges and do whatever it takes to serve Library patrons. For example, Jill is the sole individual responsible for posting electronic reserve materials submitted by Urbana faculty. She processes all requests, scans all materials, monitors the fair use of electronic reserve items, and provides instructional support to faculty using the services. These duties are performed in a timely and efficient manner in addition to all of her other daily duties. Jill provided valuable insight about reserve practices and identified differences in service between the Health Science and the Daley Libraries. Due to Jill's dedication and diligence in completing the upgrade within two days, users at Urbana did not experience any problems with the new version of electronic reserve software. She performs above her expectations and works well supervised or unsupervised. Jill is an asset to the Library of the Health Sciences at Urbana

ANNOUNCEMENTS
|
Executive Committee Agenda Items
If anyone has any agenda items to suggest for the Executive Committee meeting of Wednesday, May 4, 2005, please contact John Cullars or Mary Case .
Daley West Door Closed During Spring Intersession
From Sunday, May 8, 2005 through Monday, May 30, 2005, the west door at Daley will NOT be re-opened at 4:30 p.m. for staff-only exit. During Fall Intersession, the Library took on this practice to address safety concerns regarding lighting. As this is not an issue during Spring and Summer Intersessions, the west door will remained closed, and Daley staff may continue to use the east door for entry and exit.
New UIC and Library Logos |
The campus’s Department of Marketing Communications has announced UIC’s new logo system. You can view the new standards at http://tigger.uic.edu/htbin/identity/BROWSE.CGI. All campus units should implement this system immediately for Web pages, printed publications (produced in-house or by a contract graphic designer), invitations, stationery, etc. (For stationery, etc., this applies only to new orders as they are placed. We will use up current supplies.)
The standards include logos for the full name of UIC, logo colors and placement, and logos for colleges and units. At this time, the standards include library logos for the Richard J. Daley Library, the Library of the Health Sciences, and the Science Library, but not one for the University Library. We have asked the Marketing Communications staff to prepare one for the University Library, and we well ask them about logos for the LHS sites. In the meantime, if you are producing a handout or publication that is specifically for Daley, LHS or Science, please use the new logo.
If you have any questions about the new logos or their use, please contact Linda Naru.

SPOTLIGHT ON: Purdue University
Eight representatives from the ARL Initiative to Recruit a Diverse Workforce visited Purdue on April 10-12, 2005 to become acquainted firsthand with the workings of a library at a major research university. The Purdue Libraries program was made possible by James L. Mullins, Dean of Libraries, who explained, "We saw this as an opportunity to promote the strategic plans of both the Purdue Libraries and the university to advance diversity among the faculty on campus. The visit also supported the ARL diversity program. The idea was to bring in very qualified professionals from groups that are traditionally underrepresented in the library profession and expose them to the workings of a major academic research library."
