STAFF NEWS |
Resignation
Doug Bicknese, University Archivist and Clinical Assistant Professor, has announced his resignation from UIC effective Aug. 18. Doug will be moving to a new position as Supervising Archivist of the National Archives and Records Administration Great Lakes Branch on Chicago's southwest side. His last day at UIC will be July 21.
Reassignment
Julia Hendry, Assistant Special Collections Librarian, will serve as Acting University Archivist, effective Aug. 16.
Relocation
Rudy Nunez, Distribution Clerk, after 6 years of service to the UIC Library, has been transferred to the UIC Office of Admissions and Records, effective July 17, 2006. We will miss Rudy.

Department of the Month
As part of its activities as the Department of Month, Documents, Maps and Microforms invites other library staff to two selected one hour guided tours: Thursday, July 27 at 10 a.m. and at 2 p.m. Tours begin in the Documents work area on the third floor. Expect to have fun and to finally understand those mysteries about government information, maps, and -- the most amazing formats of all -- microforms! Imagine the stories you will be able to tell your family and friends! All are welcome!
Direct Request Unit new location
The Direct Request Unit, Circulation Department at Daley Library has moved into Room 1-460. Staff can be reached at the same telephone number: 6-6649.
Lectures and Forums
Lectures and Forums wishes to announce that Jonathan Eldredge, Academic and Clinical Services Coordinator, Health Sciences, Library and Informatics Center, the School of Medicine, the University of New Mexico, will give a symposium on his research as well as a more informal presentation on Friday, November 10, 2006. Dr. Eldredge has published widely in the leading medical librarianship journals, as well as having offered a course on Evidence Based Learning (EBL) many times since 1998 in Canada, the United States, and Great Britain.
Details will follow. Please mark your calendars.

CARLI
On July 1, 2005, ICCMP, IDAL, and ILCSO merged to become the Consortium of Academic and Research Libraries in Illinois (CARLI). 2005-2006 will be a transition year for the new organization during which an integrated CARLI website will be developed. Will not use update checker to download and install new clients
Download files to a flash drive and move from computer to computer
Take screen shots of the settings/session preferences for Voyager Circulation, Reporter & Call Slip modules
Make copies of the voyager.ini, callslip.ini, and the reporter folder. KK will make call slip.ini file available after we customize it from the CARLI website
Designees to download & install clients confirmed. Clients can be downloaded and installed June 14 th at 5 pm. For multiple installations, download Voyagerinstall.exe file to a flash drive and insert drive into the USB port of each machine to install. (Voyager 6.1 not immediately required for those who will use manual charges; must be installed June 14 th @ 5:00pm for those using offline backup)
Make sure machines are backed up by the ADSN Backup. Visit www.accc.uic.edu
These using manual circulation can input data once Voyager goes live
Those using offline circulation will use the File Maker Pro database to enter patron data and item numbers
Consult Basic Outline of Procedures to determine how to manage patrons during the downtime. Keep a copy next to work stations.
No way to authenticate patrons during the downtime. Lisa & Mircea are looking to create a database of patrons to use during the downtime. Trying to determine how to include list of UB patrons.
RUSH Catalog processing during downtime: circulate on-the-fly barcode catalog review flag & note attached so item can be cataloged upon return (Daley only).
Recalls---Lisa O'Leary to run report of recalls prior to the downtime

When Voyager Goes Live |

Each session creates an offline circulation file. Staff will use the error reports to identify problems.
Load charges into Voyager and resolve charge transactions that did not go through the offline circulation.
Load transactions into the system by 11am. If transactions are not completed by then, e-mail CIRCWKS that you are not done; then send a message when you are finished
Offline backup database can only perform charges; it cannot perform discharges.

Call slip Item Required ~ functionality for this feature is available. CIRCWRKS will decide how best to utilize this feature and make a recommendation
