All Staff Meeting Recordings
A voice recording of the all staff meeting on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2005 is available online. Unfortunately, only the first half of the meeting was recorded. The second half, which included the question-and-answer section, will be available as a PDF file as soon as it is available.
Acquisitions Department Reconfiguration
Over the next few weeks, the Acquisitions Department will undergo a number of changes.
The room that the Binding and Shelf Preparation Section are currently in will be vacated, and the staff and activities will be integrated into the Serials Section area. To make room for the move, a number of changes will be made to the Serials Section area. The counter used to hold journals being checked in will be demolished. The free-standing wall in the south end of the section will be demolished. Some of the wooden shelving in our mail room will be taken down. The layout of the desks and shelving will be changed to accommodate the Binding and Shelf Preparation staff. And finally, Joyce Drzal will move from her office to an office in the Orders Section, and Vickie Gordon will move to Joyce's old office.
We anticipate some disruption during this reconfiguration. The demolition phase will happen on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2005, and the desks will be moved on October 3 and 4. During these times, Serials and Binding staff will not be able to do their work, since computers will have to be moved as well as desks. Serials checkin and shelf-preparation work will be affected for a few days, but we anticipate it will not be too long before we are back in business.
This is a major effort but we expect that it will go smoothly. The result will be a new department with some efficiencies in workflow. We'll keep you posted.
