New Appointments
• Rosalva Diaz, Business Services Specialist at LHS, GMR, effective Oct. 24, 2005.
• George Stachokas, Library Specialist, will now be working in Documents effective Oct. 24, 2005. He can be reached at 6-2738.
Publication
Lisa Zhao's article "How Librarians Used Online Resources-An analysis of citations in CCQ" has been accepted by Cataloging & Classification Quarterly and will be published in v.42:no.1, 2006. Lisa Zhao is Assistant Catalog Librarian in Daley Cataloging Dept.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Systems Reorganization
As reported a few weeks ago, we have decided to reorganize the Systems Department. Effective Monday, Oct. 17, staff in Systems are reporting as follows:
• Ling Wang and Lisa O'Leary report to Joan Schuitema, Catalog Deparment
• Wendall Sullivan (part-time) and Li Fu report to Ann Weller, Special Collections
• Ellen Starkman reports to Doug Bicknese, Archives
• Francis Kayiwa and Daniel Enoch report to Jay Lambrecht, Administration
• Wendall Sullivan (part-time as Webmaster) reports to Mary Case, Administration
Gil Roman will continue to report to Francis Kayiwa and the Systems Graduate Assistants to Daniel Enoch.
Wendall Sullivan has moved to 4-181, and Ellen Stackman will be moving to the Internal Digitization Lab on the 4th floor. Roberta Devlin and Katie Glenzinski-Marchetti, Photo Services, will also be moving to the Internal Digitization Lab. Roberta will be in charge of the day-to-day operations of the Lab. Roberta will continue to report to Doug Bicknese.
The Systems staff will continue to have library-wide responsibilities. Please send systems requests to lib-sys as in the past.
We will be reviewing this arrangement in six months to see how it is working and if any adjustments need to be made.
Many thanks for your support of the Systems staff as they go through this transition.

Support Staff Appreciation Award
Attached is a nomination form for a Support Staff Appreciation Award sponsored by the Staff Advisory Council. Technically, there is no deadline to submit nominations, as 3-4 awards will be given between October and June.
Please take the time to nominate one of your fellow support staff colleagues!
Federal Work Study
Students who have Federal Work Study must give Library HR a copy of their acceptance letter.
New Evaluation Form For Civil Service Employees
University Human Resources will now require a one-month, three-month, and five-month evaluation during the employee's probationary period. Library departments can use the Library's three-month evaluation form, but the University Human Resources evaluation form must be completed. Routing procedures have not changed for review of evaluations. Departments should continue to send evaluations for review to Library Human Resources Attached is a copy of the new evaluation form.

Support Staff Appreciation Award
The Staff Advisory Council voted to implement a proposed Employee Appreciation Award. The specifics are as follows:
AWARD: The Awardees will receive an award certificate and a $25 gift certificate from the UIC Bookstore (east or west campus). In addition, awardees picture will appear in the UIC News.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this appreciation award is to identify and reward individuals who recognize the value of, and contribute specifically to, furthering the status of goals of the University of Illinois.
CRITERIA:
The individual chosen to receive the award must have clearly demonstrated a dedication to the concerns, interest, and aspirations of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Nominees must be status support staff of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
PROCEDURES:The nomination forms should be filled out by the nominator and directed to your Staff Advisory Council Representative. Any council representative, faculty, staff, or student may nominate an eligible employee they feel is deserving of this appreciation award. The Staff Advisory Council Awards and Recognition Committee will review all nominations.
All nomination forms are to be signed and dated by the person submitting the nomination. Self-nominations will not be considered. The Awards and Recognition Committee submits the nominee(s) to the Executive Staff Advisory Council for acceptance. The Support Staff Appreciation Awardees are honored at the Staff Advisory Meetings.
