Research Brown Bag
A Research Brown Bag Breakfast has been scheduled for Dec. 14, from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in the LHS conference room.
Time Cards
Supervisors should not be changing any time that has been punched in/out. If it is necessary to make a change on a punched in/out time, you must indicated on the time card the reason why you are making the change. Only hand written entries should be corrected. Supervisors should not be changing any punched in/out times to avoid overtime, etc.
Support Staff Appreciation Award
Attached is a nomination form for a Support Staff Appreciation Award sponsored by the Staff Advisory Council. Technically, there is no deadline to submit nominations, as 3-4 awards will be given between October and June.
Please take the time to nominate one of your fellow support staff colleagues!
Federal Work Study
Students who have Federal Work Study must give Library HR a copy of their acceptance letter.
New Evaluation Form For Civil Service Employees
University Human Resources will now require a one-month, three-month, and five-month evaluation during the employee's probationary period. Library departments can use the Library's three-month evaluation form, but the University Human Resources evaluation form must be completed. Routing procedures have not changed for review of evaluations. Departments should continue to send evaluations for review to Library Human Resources. Attached is a copy of the new evaluation form.

Library of public domain books preview -- MSFT will add 150,000 titles in 2006. The Open Content Alliance is scanning in hundreds of thousands of public-domain books. Preview some of the Alliance's output that's just gone live through gorgeous in-browser book-viewer that combines the best elements of a physical book (tactility, the idiosyncracies of printed type) with an electronic book (zoomability, searchability, text-to-speech).

Duke Law School Moving Image Contest announced finalists in their Arts Project Moving Image Contest. The contest asked entrants to create short films demonstrating some of the tensions between art and intellectual property law, and the intellectual property issues artists face, focusing on either music or documentary film."

Support Staff Appreciation Award
The Staff Advisory Council voted to implement a proposed Employee Appreciation Award. The specifics are as follows:
AWARD: The Awardees will receive an award certificate and a $25 gift certificate from the UIC Bookstore (east or west campus). In addition, awardees picture will appear in the UIC News.
OBJECTIVE: The objective of this appreciation award is to identify and reward individuals who recognize the value of, and contribute specifically to, furthering the status of goals of the University of Illinois.
CRITERIA:
The individual chosen to receive the award must have clearly demonstrated a dedication to the concerns, interest, and aspirations of the University of Illinois at Chicago. Nominees must be status support staff of the University of Illinois at Chicago.
PROCEDURES:The nomination forms should be filled out by the nominator and directed to your Staff Advisory Council Representative. Any council representative, faculty, staff, or student may nominate an eligible employee they feel is deserving of this appreciation award. The Staff Advisory Council Awards and Recognition Committee will review all nominations.
All nomination forms are to be signed and dated by the person submitting the nomination. Self-nominations will not be considered. The Awards and Recognition Committee submits the nominee(s) to the Executive Staff Advisory Council for acceptance. The Support Staff Appreciation Awardees are honored at the Staff Advisory Meetings.
